Jnanodaya   Retreat Center , Hubli

Jnanodaya Retreat Center is situated at Hubli in the revenue state of Dharwad in the Northern part of Karnataka State, India and in the Diocese of Belgaum. This retreat center was opened and blessed on the 19th of January 2002 by His Grace Arch Bishop Barnard Moras, the then Bishop of the Diocese of Belgaum. But prayer meetings, minor and major Bible conventions have been conducted at Hubli on behalf of the Retreat Center, while Rev Fr.John Arolichalil V.C. was residing at Hubli in our ashram from 1998 onwards. At that time it was known as St.John's Retreat center. Presently there are two priests at this retreat center to minister the Word of God Rev Dr George Vadekkekara V.C.as superior of the ashram and Rev Fr.Tom Mulanjanany V.C.   as the director of the Retreat Center.

Usual Programmes

1.Intercessory Prayer Service:
The priests and the ministerial staff of the Retreat Center spend time before the Blessed Sacrament one hour each in the morning (9-10), in the evening (7.30-8.30) other than the community prayers and other personal spiritual exercises.
On Monday Tuesday and Wednesday the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for public from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm. Many make use of this time to be with the Lord and to pray for the entire world. This is the time scheduled by themselves according to their convenience.

2.Thursday services (Medium -English)
Every Thursday evening at 5.15 around 50 people are coming to attend the Prayer Service. We spend this time for Adoration, intercessory prayers followed by Holy Mass.


3.Friday Service   (Medium - English)
Every Friday around 100 people are attending the prayer services. We start at 3.00 pm with the Stations of the Cross, then exposing the Blessed Sacrament we recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet. And we continue with adoration preaching the word of god, healing services, wind up with the Holy Eucharistic Celebration.

4.Saturday Services
As our Retreat Center is situated in the midst of different linguistic groups, we have to give equal consideration for all of them. Our usual language is English here for prayer services but on Saturdays we conduct prayer services and Ministry of Word of God in different languages as it is given below.

1st Saturday   : Prayer Service in Kannada
2nd Saturday : Prayer Service in Tamil
3rd Saturday : Prayer Service in Malayalam

These services start at 3.00pm and end up with Holy Mass in respective languages. Fr.George Vadekkekara is able to celebrate Holy mass in Kannada and Fr.Tom Mulanjanany in Tamil. On each Saturday around 50 people are participating in the services.

5.Night Vigil Service
The 4th Saturday of every month is set apart for the Night vigil Service. There will be nearly 100 people from different language groups to attend the night vigil service. The service will start at Saturday 10.00 pm and end on Sunday morning at 6.00 am with Eucharistic celebration. English and Kannada languages are used for Night Vigil Services.


Special Programme

1.Mini Bible Conventions
We conduct 2 or 3 days retreats and healing services once in month in English, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam     alternatively. For these programmes we invite preachers from respective languages especially for Kannada and Tamil. 2 to 4 hundred people attend in this retreat.

2.Bible Convention
5 days bible convention is conducted at our retreat center once in a year in a year by famous and eminent preachers. The preaching will be simultaneously translated into various languages. Nearly 2 thousand people attend this convention.

3.Divine Mercy Feast
We propagate the devotion to divine Mercy. Every Friday we conduct Divine Mercy Chaplet and Novena. For the Divine Mercy Feast, that falls on the first Sunday after Easter is being celebrated with the Novena. For these days priests from neighboring parishes are invited to celebrate Holy Eucharist with us.

4.Residential Retreat
Our retreat center has the facility to accommodate 100 people. We have already conducted residential retreats for students, nurses etc. from may 2005 onwards we plan to have regular Residential Retreats for 5 days in every months under different titles, suitable to various group of people. The medium of language for the residential retreat will be English.


5. Pastoral ministries
We both of us are involved in the pastoral ministries of the neighboring parishes. We keep good relations with the parish priests. They give us charge of their parishes in their absence. We administrate the sacraments on demand of the parties with the consent of the parish priests. People come and take us to their homes for special prayers and blessing over the sick. We celebrate Holy mass in Malayalam in Syro Malabar rite on every Sunday at ST. Joseph's church, Hubli.

6.Outreach ministries
We undertake retreats and convention at different parishes and places in and out of Karnataka. Recently retreats were preached at Shimogo, Davangere, Dharwad in Karnataka.

7.Ministry Among Non Christians
Many Hindu, Muslim people are coming to attend the prayer services, especially during the special programmes of the Center. Also, many individuals are coming for personal blessings and prayers.

8.Book Stall
We have a bookstall through which we make Bible, Spiritual books, Devotional Albums, Rosaries, Chains and other pious articles available for the needs of the people.
