Description

Vincentian house Shenton Park was established in 2008. The patron of the house is St. Aloysius Gonzaga. It is the first Vincentian house in Australia. Shenton Park is a city- suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. His Grace the Most Rev Barry James Hickey, the Archbishop of Perth invited us to begin our ministry here in the year 2007. Even before, many of our conferrers had been doing regular preaching ministry in different parts of Australia. Accepting the invitation of the Archbishop we had an official inauguration of our Vincentian ministry in Australia on 30th January 2008. The Archbishop, during a concelebrated mass officially entrusted the parish to the care of Vincentians. Very Rev. Fr. Varghese Puthussery, the Superior General and Very Rev. Fr. Jose Vettiyankel, the Provincial superior of the St. Joseph's province have accepted the responsibility and signed the agreement. Rev Frs. Augustian Mundekkattu, the Asst. Provincial Superior, George Vettaparabil and Francis Naduviledathu, the General Councillors and Sabu Kalapurackal from our congregation were present to witness the historical occasion. Rev. Msgr. Brian O'Loughlin, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese, Fr. Sean Briden the former parish priest and Fr. Benedict Lee the priest in charge of the parish along with many parishioners and friends where present to witness the grace filled occasion.

Fr. Sabu Kalapurackal was appointed as the priest in charge of the house. The presbytery of the parish is used as the Vincentian house. Along with the care of the parish, the Archbishop had entrusted us the chaplaincy of the five neighboring hospitals. We took over these ministries from the Camillian fathers from Ireland. On 10th April 2008 three of our priests - Frs. Rojan Poonatt, Varghese Parackal and Thomas Mankuthel arrived here to form the first Vincentian community. Fr. Poonatt became the first superior of the community and the parish priest. Fr. Mankuthel was the finance officer of the house and a full time chaplain to four hospitals. Fr. Parackal was in-charge of the preaching ministry.

Along with the parish and hospital ministry, we soon started the regular healing services and organized Malayalam services for the Syro-Malabar believers in Perth. By the providence of God, both the ministries flourished soon and as we could not accommodate the large crowds in our church here, we approached the Archbishop for another convenient place and thus he entrusted us another parish- Holy Family parish Maddington. Fr. Parackal was transferred to Maddington as the parish priest and the healing service and Malayalam services are continued there. The life and ministry of the Vincentians are much appreciated here and the providence of God guides us in everything.
