Description
Idukki is Kerala's very own Eden where nature spreads her carpet of Green to welcome visitors from across the world. Here in the calmness of the High-ranges the town of Kattappana invites you to the Vincentian House by name "Krupalaya" – the house of grace – where you can feel the loving touch of the living God! At present Krupalaya is the Novitiate House of the St. Joseph's Province of the Vincentian Congregation.
Krupalaya is situated in the greeny suburb of the town one km. away from the down – town, by the side of the Theni – Moovattupazha highway and it stands half way between Kattappana and Kochuthovala.
Krupalaya belongs to the juridical boundary of the Diocese of Kanjirappally and in the Forane Parish of Kattappana. His Excellency Mar Mathew Vattakuzhy blessed it on April 30, 1997, the then Bishop of Kanjirappally in the presence of Very Rev. Fr. Antony Plackal, the then Superior General and Very Rev. Fr. Mathew Thoyalil the then Provincial Superior. The Congregation purchased 5.40 acres of land in the year 1995, from Mrs. Kanakalil Mariam and family. Rev. Fr. Joseph Ayyamkolil was appointed Superior of the newly founded institution and by his hard work and supervision the dream-project Krupalaya became a reality. During the time of construction Rev. Fr. Joseph stayed with the Brothers of St. John of God rendering his service as the chaplain of their Mission Hospital at Kattappana. St. Vincent de Paul is the heavenly Patron of the House.
The new institution functioned as a Retreat House for five years from 1998-2003 and more than one hundred Retreats were conducted for the people of God under the leadership of Rev. Frs. Joseph Ayyamkolil, Francis Chelapurath and Michael Panachikal. During this period Rev. Frs. Jacob Athickal, Francis Pullatt, Francis Chelapurath and Michael Panachikal served as House Superiors.
Krupalaya arranges few Retreats every year for the local community. There is adoration to the most Blessed Sacrament and healing services together with preaching the Word of God on every Friday from 6-8 pm. Every day we give sermon during the Holy Mass. Over a hundred people gather here on weekdays and around five hundred on Sundays. For Easter and Christmas services, the crowd will be still larger. Very many faithful come here for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. People of the neighboring parishes namely Kattappana, Vellayamkudy, Erattayar and Kochuthovala etc. are regular attendants of Krupalaya and they keep good relationship with the inmates.
