Description
The Vincentian house, Padamugham is situated in Idukki district between Murickasserry and Thopramkudy, on the side of the road which leads to Adimaly and Kattappana. The history of the housebegins with the registration of 6 acres of land to our ownership on 27th April, 2002. A temporary building was made immediately and a school was started for the students from LKG to class VI, in June. In search of a better place for the school, another 5 acres of land was bought at Vathikudy, which is just one km away for the first place, on February 28, 2003. Later on December 18, another 7 acres of land was registered in our name at Rajamudy, which is 4 km away for the first place. The foundation stone was laid for the school building on January 16, 2004, by the then Superior General Rev. Fr. George Arackal. On the same day the house building at Padamugham also was blessed by the Provincial Superior Rev. Fr. Abraham Kanjirakonam. The temporary school at Padamugham was shifted to Rajamudy and classes began in the new building form the academic year 2004.
It was evaluated that the serene atmosphere and cool climate of Padamugham is the best suited place for a novitiate. Thus foundation stone was laid for the new novitiate building by the Superior General Rev. Fr. Varghese Puthussery on February 27, 2008. A plot of 4 acres of land, adjacent to the ashram also was bought in 2008 June.
2010 January 21 is an unforgettable day in the history of this house. On this day the new novitiate building and the chapel were blessed by Mar Mathew Anikuzhikkattil, the bishop of Idukki, and the novitiate was shifted from Kattappana with 11 novices and Fr. Sebastian Thundathikunnel as the Novice Master. At present the two important institutions, novitiate and school, are functioning well under this ashram with four priests and novices, though there is a distance of 4 km between them.
