Bishop Noel Andrew Rucastle’s First Visit to India: A Memorable Encounter with the Vincentian Community.
The St. Joseph Province of the Vincentian Congregation had the privilege of hosting Most Rev. Noel Andrew Rucastle, Bishop of the Diocese of Oudtshoorn, South Africa, during his first-ever visit to India. The bishop stayed at the Vincentian Provincial House for five days, accompanied by Rev.Fr. Manu Karingattuparambil VC, the first Vincentian missionary in South Africa.
The visit was thoughtfully planned to provide him with a deeper understanding of the zealous missionary activities of the Vincentians and to offer him an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Kerala. A highlight of his visit was his participation in the concluding session of the Mega Popular Mission Retreat at Poomkavu. During his stay, he also visited several Vincentian ashrams, receiving a warm and heartfelt welcome from the confreres.
Throughout his engagements, Bishop Rucastle expressed his joy and appreciation for the Vincentian presence in South Africa, particularly in his diocese, acknowledging the dedication and missionary zeal of Rev. Fr. Manu. In addition to his pastoral experiences, he had the opportunity to explore Kerala’s renowned landscapes, including the Kumarakom backwaters and the Munnar hilltops and tea gardens.
To honour his visit, a special welcome dinner was organized on the evening of February 18th at the Provincial House, where confreres from nearby Vincentian communities gathered in a spirit of joy and fraternity. The evening was filled with vibrancy, gratitude, and mutual appreciation. The St. Joseph Province extends its heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Noel Andrew Rucastle for his gracious presence, his openness, and the valuable opportunities he continues to extend to the congregation. His visit has strengthened the bond between the Vincentians and the Diocese of Oudtshoorn, further encouraging the missionary spirit in South Africa.
