Funeral Ceremony of Rev. Fr. Augustine Naduvilpurayidathil VC
The funeral ceremony of Rev. Fr. Augustine Naduvilpurayidathil VC (70) was solemnly conducted on February 24, 2026, at the Parithrana Retreat Centre, Adichira, in the presence of bishops, priests, religious, family members, and a large number of faithful. The first phase of the funeral prayers was led by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thundathikunnel VC, Provincial Superior. This was followed by the Office for the Dead and public homage, during which many paid their last respects.
The second phase of the funeral prayers was officiated by His Excellency Mar John Nellikunnel, Bishop of the Diocese of Idukki. He gratefully remembered the simplicity and warm hospitality of Fr. Augustine.
The Requiem Holy Mass began at 2:00 p.m., with His Excellency Mar George Madathikandathil, Bishop of the Diocese of Kothamangalam, as the main celebrant. Very Rev. Fr. Paul Puthuva, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thundathikunnel VC, Rev. Fr. Robin Chittuparambil, Rev.Fr. Abraham Mukalayil and Rev. Fr. Pulakudichirakandathil Roy concelebrated. Rev. Fr. Augustine Mundackatt VC delivered the homily, highlighting Fr. Augustine’s life and the various moments they shared in their friendship.
After the Holy Mass, a vote of thanks was proposed by Rev. Fr. George Poonattu. The final rites were also led by Bishop Mar George Madathikandathil. The funeral procession followed, with the coffin carried by the Vincentian Fathers inside the Church and later by the family members outside. The final prayers and the rite of face covering were performed before the mortal remains were laid to rest at 5:00 p.m.
The solemn celebration reflected the deep love and respect Fr. Augustine earned through his faithful and selfless priestly ministry. The Vincentian Congregation and the faithful bid farewell with gratitude for his life of service and commended his soul to the eternal mercy of God.
